BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Luke Apfeld's free throws with 30 seconds left proved the difference as Vermont handed Dartmouth its third straight loss in a 52-50, nonconference decision Wednesday night.
Apfeld went to the line and hit both shots to snap a 50-all tie. Dartmouth (2-6) got off a pair of 3-point attempts in the waning seconds, but missed both.
Dartmouth led 45-44 with 4:24 left when Apfeld converted a three-point play to put Vermont (6-3) ahead. Jvonte Brooks responded with a three-point play for the Big Green, only to have Clancy Rugg put the Catamounts ahead 50-48 with 3:42 left with another three-point play.
Alex Mitola tied the game at 50 with a jumper with 49 seconds left.
Rugg finished with 15 points, while Apfeld had 13 points and was 5 of 5 from the foul line.
Gabas Maldunas led Dartmouth with 14 points and also had nine rebounds and three blocks.
