PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rafael Maia supplied the inside game and Tucker Halpern was effective from the outside, leading Brown to a 69-56 nonconference victory over Sacred Heart on Thursday night.
Maia scored 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Bears (3-3), while Halpern made 5 of 8 shots from 3-point range, finishing with 17 points overall.
Halpern hit four of his 3s in the second half, including two that came 43 seconds apart and capped a 15-6 run at the start of the half that gave Brown a 46-33 lead with 12:53 remaining.
The Bears launched 36 3-point attempts, but Halpern's teammates were less successful, combining to make 5 of 28. Sean McGonagill was 2-for-14 behind the arc but handed out eight assists and made three steals.
Louis Montes scored 17 points, including 10 of 10 from the free-throw line, to lead the Pioneers (3-3).
