MACON, Ga. -- Monty Brown led four Mercer scorers in double figures with 14 points as the Bears beat Furman 73-46 Sunday night in a nonconference battle.
Mercer (3-3) led 35-27 at the half despite shooting only 33.3 percent (9 of 27) from the field versus Furman's 45.5 percent (10 of 22). The Paladins (2-3) outrebounded the Bears 23-12 in the half and 36-25 for the game, but committed 25 turnovers to Mercer's eight and lost the points off turnover battle 28-5 for the game.
Furman finished 11 of 23 from the free-throw line.
Brown netted his points on 4-of-6 shooting plus a 6 of 8 performance from the free-throw line. Jakob Gollon had 11 points for Mercer, while Daniel Coursey and Travis Smith had 10 each. Langston Hall had seven assists.
Larry Wideman led the Paladins with 13 points, including 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range, and also pulled down seven rebounds.
