ORONO, Maine -- Xavier Pollard scored 15 points and had 12 assists, both career highs, to lead Maine to its first victory this season, 72-66 over Siena in a nonconference game Sunday.
The sophomore guard assisted on four straight baskets by the Black Bears (1-4) as they turned a 40-39 deficit into a 49-40 lead with 13:37 remaining.
Three of those baskets were by Justin Edwards, who led Maine's scorers with 19 points. Alasdair Fraser added 17 points and also had nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
After the Saints (2-4) cut the lead to 49-45, Pollard nailed a 3-pointer, Edwards added two baskets and Fraser one to make it 58-45 with 8:20 to play.
Evan Hymes scored 20 points for Siena and Rakeem Brookins had 15, including 10 in the first half when the Saints took a 36-33 lead. O.D. Anosike had 12 points and 20 rebounds, his sixth double-double this season.
