LEXINGTON, Va. -- Stan Okoye scored 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, and D.J. Covington had 20 points to lead Virginia Military Institute to a 90-81 win over Elon on Saturday.
Brian Brown finished with 16 points for the Keydets (3-3), who have won three of their last four games. Rodney Glasgow chipped in with 10 points.
VMI trailed 52-48 with 17:00 left in the second half when Austin Hamilton scored on a layup. But the Keydets regained the lead and never fell behind again after scoring six straight points to pull ahead by two points.
VMI took a 74-65 lead with 7:09 remaining in the game on two free throws by Covington, who went 6 of 7 from the line. The Phoenix (4-2) cut VMI's lead to four points with just over five minutes left in the game, but was unable to pull closer.
Jack Isenbarger led Elon with 25 points.
