MACON, Ga. -- Jibri Bryan scored 12 points off the bench and Kevin Canevari added 10 and five steals as Mercer roared to a 70-25 win over Oglethorpe Monday night.
Ten players scored for Mercer (2-0) as the Bears stormed to a 32-12 halftime lead, then outscored the Division III Stormy Petrels 38-13 in the second half. Oglethorpe, which considered the game an exhibition, missed 14 of its first 15 shots. No one scored in double figures.
Mercer hit 25 of 58 shots from the floor, including 12 3-pointers in 28 attempts. Oglethorpe was 20 percent (9 of 45) from the field, including only 3 for 23 from 3-point range. Two treys were by Branden Jovaag who, along with Jordan Kinney, led Oglethorpe with six points apiece.
Oglethorpe's 25 points are the fewest Mercer has allowed since a 47-23 win over Lander on Jan. 25, 1972.
