Louisville 65, DePaul 53

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Terrence Williams scored 15 points and

Louisville kept its fading hopes of making the Big East tournament

alive with a 65-53 win over DePaul on Wednesday night at Freedom

Hall.

Juan Palacios scored 14 points and Taquan Dean added 11 points

for the Cardinals (17-9 overall, 5-8 Big East), who moved into a

tie with Providence for 10th place in the jumbled bottom half of

the 16-team league. The top 12 teams make the conference tournament

at Madison Square Garden next month.

Wilson Chandler led DePaul (10-14, 3-10) with 21 points and nine

rebounds, but the Blue Demons shot just 39 percent from the floor

and allowed Louisville to outrebound them 38-31, just the second

time in conference play the Cardinals have outrebounded an

opponent.

Louisville took control with a 10-0 run midway through the

second half after the Blue Demons had tied the game at 41 on a dunk

by Chandler.

Chad Millard hit a layup, reserve center Terrance Farley put

back a miss by Dean and Brandon Jenkins knocked down a 3-pointer as

the Cardinals played with the kind of urgency coach Rick Pitino was

looking for with his team's season on the line.

DePaul only trailed 28-25 at the half thanks in large part to

Draelon Burns, who scored DePaul's final seven points of the half

to keep the Blue Demons close.
