Texas A&M Aggies @ Baylor Bears
Texas A&M 64, Baylor 60
WACO, Texas (AP) -- Acie Law IV got what he apparently wanted -- a
tough victory.
Law hit a key jumper in the final minute and scored the last of
his 18 points on two free throws with 2.6 seconds remaining,
clinching Texas A&M's 64-60 win over Baylor on Saturday.
Josh Carter and Joseph Jones each added 14 points for Texas A&M
(16-7, 6-6 Big 12). Carter's layup with 8.9 seconds left put the
Aggies ahead 62-58, but Tommy Swanson's tip-in cut the Baylor
deficit to two.
Law then sank the free throws, his first two of the game, after
he was fouled by Aaron Bruce on the inbound pass.
It was the second close game between the teams this season. In
College Station on Jan. 29, the Aggies hit four free throws in the
final 40 seconds to hold off Baylor 72-70.
"We prefer to grind it out," said Law, who was 8-of-17 from
the field. "We play for turnovers, missed shots, loose balls down
on the floor ... we feel like if we get them to play our style of
play, we can grind out a victory."
Curtis Jerrells and Bruce led Baylor (2-10, 2-10) with 14 points
each. Swanson had a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing a
career-high 14 rebounds.
Texas A&M's Antana Kavaliauskas added 10 points, going 5-for-5
from the field.
Baylor missed an opportunity when, trailing 58-56 with 21.9
seconds left, Swanson couldn't corral the rebound after Carter's
missed free throw. The ball went off Swanson's fingertips and fell
out of bounds.
"I thought we had that one," Baylor coach Scott Drew said.
Texas A&M, which shot just 35 percent in the second half, led
28-17 late in the first half before Baylor stormed back. The Bears
ended the half on a 17-3 run and took a 34-31 halftime lead.
The victory was the third straight for the Aggies.
"That was a hard-fought win, and I'm very, very, very happy to
get it," Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie said.
