Holy Cross 89, Army 39

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) -- Torey Thomas had 21 points, including

four 3-point goals as Holy Cross defeated Army 88-38 Wednesday

night.

Thomas hit the first shot of the game, a 3-pointer, and the

Crusaders built on wide margins throughout the opening half,

limiting the Black Knights to five field goals and 25 percent

shooting to take a 42-14 halftime lead.

Holy Cross led by 10 on a field goal by Colin Cunningham, 17-7

with 10:36 left in the half. Keith Simmons's steal and dunk made it

25-9 with 6:10 remaining, before Army managed to cut into the lead.

Jarell Brown converted a 3-pointer and then Jimmy Sewell scored a

layup to make it 26-14, with 4:57 left.

But Holy Cross then went on a 16-0 run to close out the half, as

Thomas scored 5 and center Tim Clifford hit a 3-point shot at the

buzzer.

Early in the second half, Thomas again had a 3-pointer to close

out a 19-0 run on the first possession.

Matt Bell scored 9 points to lead Army (5-17, 1-9 Patriot

League). Kevin Hamilton added 15 points for Holy Cross (14-10,

7-2).
