LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Joe McCray, Aleks Maric and Jamel White
each scored 14 points to lead Nebraska to a 80-65 win over Longwood
on Friday in the John Thompson Foundation Basketball Challenge.
Nebraska (1-0) used 15-3 runs in each half to secure the
victory.
Nebraska fell behind when Dana Smith hit a long 3-pointer to put
the Lancers up 29-26 with 3:40 left in the first half.
But the Huskers took advantage of Longwood turnovers and misses
to go on its first 15-3 run and take a 41-32 lead at half. Included
in the Husker run was McCray's buzzer-beating 3-pointer.
The Lancers' Kirk Williams dunked to cut the lead to 58-48 with
11:47 left, but the Huskers went on their next run to put the game
away.
Nebraska outrebounded Longwood 45-32 and got 12 second-chance
points off 17 offensive rebounds.
Jason Dourisseau added 13 points for Nebraska.
Maurice Sumpter led Longwood (0-1) with 17 points. Bryan Butler
had 15 and Dana Smith added 12.
