Pitchers to stream on Sunday
Jared Jones has averaged 88 pitches per game over his last seven outings. While it's possible that the Pittsburgh Pirates will have him on a pitch count on the last day of the season, if they were concerned about workload, they would have already slowed him down. Over these seven efforts, Jones posted a 2.09 ERA and 0.98 WHIP, with an elite 53 strikeouts and 15 walks over 38 2/3 innings. He'll end the season on the road against a Detroit Tigers lineup fanning at an accelerated clip down the stretch.
There are three reasons why Michael Soroka is a top streaming candidate. He's one of the few starters taking the hill with the season on the line, with the Arizona Diamondbacks trying to catch the Philadelphia Phillies for the final wild card spot. He's facing a San Diego Padres lineup more concerned about staying healthy for the impending Wild Card series. While those are important, they wouldn't matter much if Soroka wasn't pitching well since coming off the IL earlier in the month. The right-hander has allowed only two earned runs over his last 12 frames, fanning 15 with just two free passes.
The Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners are playing out the string, with Yusei Kikuchi wrapping up the season for the Angels. There is no reason to limit his workload, and he's facing a lineup offering high strikeout potential.
Hitters to stream on Sunday
The Toronto Blue Jays host the Cincinnati Reds on the last day of the regular season. Lefty Brandon Williamson will take the hill for the visitors, putting righty swingers Alejandro Kirk and Kazuma Okamoto in a favorable position for the hosts. Williamson has done a good job keeping the ball in the yard, but he doesn't miss many bats and is generous with bases on balls.
The Chicago White Sox are in the postseason, but they're still battling for the AL Central crown and a first-round bye. Randal Grichuk enjoys the platoon edge over Colorado Rockies southpaw Kyle Freeland. The veteran outfielder's OPS facing lefties is a robust 1.016 this season.
After avoiding the long ball for most of the season, Kansas City Royals left-hander Daniel Lynch IV surrendered three to the White Sox in his last outing. Jo Adell and the Cleveland Guardians are hoping for a similar outcome on the last day of the regular season as they try to clinch the AL Central crown. Historically, Adell exhibits extreme platoon splits. This season, he has a .947 OPS versus lefties and a .592 mark against righties.
