Pitchers to stream on Sunday
Justin Wrobleski isn't stretched out enough to pitch deep into Sunday's game, but if he's efficient with his pitches, the lefty could log at least five frames and be eligible for a win. Since Aug. 15, he has thrown 16 frames with 20 strikeouts and only four walks, so he's been on point for a month. The Los Angeles Dodgers hold the second NL bye, but they are still in play for the top seed with an outside shot of a collapse into the Wild Card round. Wrobleski is at home against a San Francisco Giants lineup that ranks third lowest in wOBA versus lefties and is without Rafael Devers.
Dean Kremer and the Minnesota Twins are playing out the string, but they'd like to build some momentum towards next season. They're wrapping up a series in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels. Kremer has only made 15 starts, but he's pitched well over his last two as he's entering the season as a free agent. The Angels are the only club with a wOBA versus lefties below .300, and they sport the highest strikeout rate in MLB.
Quinn Mathews' last two efforts have been quality starts, the first two of his career. The rookie struck out 12 with four walks over a combined 12 1/3 innings. He'll try to extend the streak when the St. Louis Cardinals entertain the Washington Nationals. It will be a good test for the lefty as the Nationals are one of the most productive teams facing southpaws, but they also fan at an excessive clip, and Busch Stadium suppresses offense.
Jonah Tong rewarded those trusting him after a solid return to the New York Mets' rotation with an even better effort in his last outing. He recorded six frames, allowing just one unearned run with five punchouts. Tong draws the Philadelphia Phillies at home. The Phillies sport the sixth-lowest wOBA facing right-handers, and entering Saturday's action, they plated more than three runs just once over the last week.
Hitters to stream on Sunday
With the Seattle Mariners visiting the Colorado Rockies this weekend, Dominic Canzone and J.P. Crawford have been two of the better hitters with a rostership below 50%. They'll face Tomoyuki Sugano and his 5.49 ERA in the series finale.
Sugano will be opposed by Kade Anderson. The left-handed rookie has shown signs of why he was considered one of the best pitching prospects in the minors, but this is his first trip into Coors Field, which is the polar opposite of Anderson's home venue. Connor Norby and Cole Carrigg are the Rockies' primary targets.
Heriberto Hernandez won't enjoy the platoon advantage when the Miami Marlins square off with Walker Buehler and the San Diego Padres. However, he has the power to overcome platoon splits, and Buehler has yielded at least one long ball in five straight outings.
Yainer Diaz is an intriguing pickup for those needing a boost behind the plate. He's hitting .354/.392/.521 in September and will enjoy the platoon edge when the Houston Astros host Martin Perez and the Atlanta Braves.
