Two No. 1 prospects in the espnW HoopGurlz recruiting rankings were named to the USA Basketball U17 team on Wednesday night.
Samantha Brunelle, the No. 1 prospect in the 2019 class who recently committed to Notre Dame, and Cameron Brink, the undeclared No. 1 prospect in the 2020 class, both were selected from a pool of 158 athletes.
In addition, Azzi Fudd, widely considered the No. 1 prospect in the 2021 class, also was selected to the team.
Aliyah Boston, MVP of the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship's winning team that won gold, will be back as well. Rounding out the 12-player team are Stanford commit Fran Belibi, Texas commit Celeste Taylor and undeclared prospects Paige Bueckers, Zia Cooke, Jordan Horston, Haley Jones, Charisma Osborne and Hailey Van Lith.
The 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup will be July 21-29 in Minsk, Belarus. Prior to that, the team will travel to Latvia, where it will compete in a round-robin tournament against U17 World Cup teams from Canada, China and Latvia.
Earlier this week, 2019 prospects Aijha Blackwell and Anaya Peoples were named to USA Basketball's U18 team, which will compete in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in August. The rest of the U18 roster, featuring UConn-bound Christyn Williams and Olivia Nelson-Ododa, consists of players from the 2018 class.
