What 1,458 means for Michigan softball coach Carol Hutchins

Carol Hutchins' Michigan softball team is ranked No. 2 in the nation. The head coach is No. 1 all by herself.

With an 8-0 victory over Indiana on Saturday, Hutchins got her 1,458th win and passed Fresno State's Margie Wright as the winningest coach in Division I softball history. Hutchins, who is in her 32nd season as coach of the Wolverines, has a record of 1,458-474-4.

Hutchins led Michigan to the 2005 national title and to 18 Big Ten titles in all.

Michigan returns to the field Sunday hoping for a sweep of the three-game series against Indiana. And, of course, for win No. 1,459 for Hutchins.

Arizona coach Mike Candrea isn't trailing Hutchins by far. He's got 1,450 wins and counting.
