Foyesade Oluokun may not be one of the most talked about defensive players in the NFL, but his performances this season have been up there with the most consistent and he delivered again in the Jacksonville Jaguars' Week 8 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Oluokun made nine tackles, including two for a loss, and picked up a sack as the Jags beat the Colts 42-7. This performance earned the linebacker of Nigerian family lineage his second Africa Player of the Week gong of the season.
On offense, Emmett Johnson - who is of Liberian descent - was a standout performer, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Sierra Leonean heritage) tallying over 100 receiving yards for a fourth straight game.
African Player of the Week: Foyesade Oluokun (Jacksonville Jaguars)
Oluokun - a first-generation Nigerian-American linebacker - made several big hits in the Jags' win over the Colts, but the ones early in the first and second quarters were arguably the most consequential in terms of setting the tone.
He brought down Jonathan Taylor for a seven-yard loss on third down on the first drive of the game. The next play was a punt, and then the Jaguars scored the game's first touchdown over 12 plays on the next drive.
That was the only touchdown of the first quarter, which ended with the Jags 7-0 to the good. On the first drive of the second quarter, Oluokun sacked Dan Jones. That set the tone for a quarter which they would utterly dominate, effectively putting the game to bed by half-time at 28-0.
Oluokun and the Jaguars showed little sign of letting up in the second half and saw out a comfortable win to go 5-2 for the season - the perfect response after a narrow 34-31 loss to the Houston Texans two weeks ago.
African Moment of the Week: Emmett Johnson (Kansas City Chiefs)
The Kansas City Chiefs lost 28-24 to the Denver Broncos, but Emmett Johnson - the son of parents who moved from Liberia - capped an impressive performance for the Chiefs with a 73-yard touchdown.
Johnson had Taylor Rapp to beat on his way to the end zone, so he cut inside, but stumbled. However, Johnson managed to regain his footing and then beat Rapp round the outside.
That touchdown was far from the only highlight for Johnson - who tallied 128 yards across five receptions, as well as 15 rushing yards and 44 yards on a kickoff return.
Honorable mentions
Boye Mafe recorded a sack for the fourth successive game as the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Tennessee Titans 43-36 in overtime despite fellow Nigerian-American player Chimere Dike's touchdown for the losing side.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has ties to Sierra Leone through his grandparents, tallied 118 receiving yards across six catches for the Seattle Seahawks and scored a touchdown in their 34-17 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Chuba Hubbard and Bobby Okereke - both with family ties to Nigeria - also lost despite major Week 8 contributions for the Carolina Panthers, who went down 27-19 to the Green Bay Packers. Hubbard scored a rushing touchdown, while Okereke picked up a fumble reception.
Davison Igbinosun - of Nigerian descent - got his first NFL career interception in the Buffalo Bills' 36-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
One match which saw major contributions from players of African heritage on both the winning and losing sides was the Washington Commanders' 27-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Charles Omenihu and Odafe Oweh (both of Nigerian descent) both picked up sacks for the Commanders, while Zimbabwe's Andrew Mukuba had an impressive outing even in defeat for the Eagles with nine tackles, a pass defended and a forced fumble.
Nigerian-American duo Josh Uche (Miami Dolphins, lost 24-19 to New England Patriots) and Donovan Ezeiruaku (Dallas Cowboys, lost 33-30 to Arizona Cardinals) both picked up sacks in defeats. Another Nigerian-American NFL star, Nnamdi Madubuike, picked up half a sack for the Baltimore Ravens in their loss to the Bills.
Africa-born Player Watch
Mukuba - born in Harare to a Congolese family - had an outstanding week for the Eagles even in defeat.
His compatriot, Nate Landman - born in the very same city - made eight tackles for the LA Rams in their 24-9 win over city rivals the LA Chargers. Seven of those tackles were solo and his contribution was vital in the win.
The Rams will face the Commanders next on Sunday in a clash which is likely to feature many of the top African talents - whether through birth or family lineage - in the NFL.
