South Africa coach Desiree Ellis has kept the core of her Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) squad for the two-legged CAF Olympic qualifying tie against Madagascar (October 9 & 13 at Bloemfontein's Toyota Stadium).
Ellis also added Sinegugu Zondi, Cimone Sauls, in-form striker Siyamthanda Qashani and talented 18-year-old midfielder/forward Bonolo Mokoma.
Robyn Moodaly-Salgado, Lebo Ramalepe, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Sibulele Holweni, Nthabiseng Majiya and Asanda Hadebe have been left out of this squad, with the size dropped from 26 in Morocco for the WAFCON in July & August to 24 now.
This is a slightly younger squad than the one that suffered quarter-final elimination against the hosts in Morocco, but recovered with a 2-1 win over Nigeria to stay in the hunt for FIFA Women's World Cup qualification.
However, 20 of the 24 players included here were in the WAFCON squad - including skipper and veteran midfielder Refiloe Jane and Tigres UANL's Thembi Kgatlana, the long-tenured leader of the attack.
Hildah Magaia is also included after sealing her move to Saudi Arabia's Al-Ittihad. Amogelang Motau (Club Tijuana), Linda Motlhalo (Glasgow City), and Bongeka Gamede (Nordsjælland) are the other overseas-based players in the squad.
Banyana Banyana will play both legs on home soil due to a lack of suitable facilities in Madagascar.
The Olympic qualifiers are scheduled to run until December 2027, with two teams from Africa set to feature among a total of 16 in the 2028 LA Olympic football tournament. Banyana Banyana squad
