Polish Ekstraklasa and UEFA Conference League side Gornik Zabrze have submitted a bid rising to approximately €1m (R18.6m or US$1.17m) for Cape Town City attacking midfielder/winger Emile Witbooi.
Following initial trials at Chelsea in 2024, Witbooi's stock rose after impressive performances for South Africa at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar last November, scoring against Bolivia and Qatar.
Górnik -- last season's runners-up in Poland's top flight -- will play the second leg of their UEFA Conference League qualification playoff away to Monaco on Thursday, having lost their home leg 3-2.
They are, however, off to a perfect start in the Ekstraklasa with three wins from three. In their bid to secure a 15th league title and first since 1988, a source told ESPN they are going all-out to secure the services of Witbooi -- who will turn 18 on Friday and thus be eligible to complete an international move.
Witbooi's camp had previously said he had been monitored by clubs in many of Europe's top leagues, as well as others in the USA and Africa, and have long stated their preference for an overseas move over a transfer to another South African club.
ESPN understands Motsepe Foundation Championship (South African second-tier) side Cape Town City value him at R20m (approximately €1.08m or US$1.25m).
As reported previously by iDiski Times, Cape Town City rejected a previous bid of €800,000 (around $932,000 or R15m) which Górnik submitted around two weeks ago.
Poland's transfer window will close at midnight upon the end of September 9.
