Unsurprisingly, the SEC and Big Ten dominate the top of oddsboard as the college football season approaches.
In total, 19 teams had odds of 80-1 or shorter to win the College Football Playoff entering August, according to DraftKings. Sixteen of those teams hail from the SEC or Big Ten, with Notre Dame, Texas Tech and Miami the only outliers.
Ohio State and Notre Dame are co-favorites to win the national championship, each listed at 6-1. Texas (+750), Oregon (+800), Georgia (+800) and defending-champion Indiana (+900) round out the teams with title odds shorter than 10-1.
While the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish sit atop the odds at 6-1, they are far from the most commanding favorites. No preseason favorite to win the national championship has had longer than 6-1 odds in the last 20 years, according to ESPN Research. But with 12 teams getting a spot in the College Football Playoff, the days of having +175 favorites (Alabama 2018 and 2022) are likely over.
Notre Dame has by far the shortest odds to reach the playoffs this season, possibly one of the perks of not dealing with the challenges of a conference schedule. The Fighting Irish are -800 to make the CFP, after getting left out of last year's bracket.
Ohio State (-360), Indiana (-350), Oregon (-320), Miami (-280), Georgia (-240), Texas (-200) and Texas Tech (-200) round out the odds-on favorites to make the CFP at DraftKings.
The college football season kicks off on Aug. 29.
