Brydon Carse was not considered for selection in England's squad for their third Test against Pakistan, as police continue to investigate allegations of an assault in Derby city centre connected to his arrest and subsequent de-arrest.
Carse is the subject of a Cricket Regulator investigation into his conduct after he was briefly detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly outside a bar in Derby while celebrating a Durham win last month.
He was filmed in handcuffs being led away from the bar by police, who confirmed that he was arrested and subsequently de-arrested. The incident led to him being stood down from England's squad for the second Test at Lord's.
Derbyshire Police have since confirmed that they are investigating allegations of assault on the night in question. It is unclear at this stage whether Carse was involved in the alleged assault.
When asked on Sky Sports during the second Test about England players' conduct, ECB chair Richard Thompson said: "I have to be careful what I say… The Cricket Regulator's involved with a recent event, and a potential criminal investigation, so I don't want to do anything that could prejudice that."
Carse played for Durham in the County Championship last week, taking four wickets in their 10-wicket win over Gloucestershire, but is not involved in their match against Northamptonshire which started on Wednesday. Durham said this was the result of "pre-arranged workload management with the ECB".
Carse was replaced in England's squad for the second Test by Hampshire fast bowler Sonny Baker, who has retained his place for next week's third Test at Edgbaston. The only change to the squad between Tests is that Surrey's Matt Fisher has been left out, leaving England picking from 15 names next week.
Marcus Trescothick, England's interim head coach, hinted after his team's crushing win at Lord's that they would likely go into the third Test unchanged as they look to seal a first Test series whitewash since July 2024.
Pakistan, by contrast, have sent seven players home and drafted seven more - including five uncapped players - into their squad for the third Test, as their tour descends into chaos. The third Test starts next Wednesday at Edgbaston.
England are also expected to name white-ball squads for their upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka later this week.
