The hat-trick hero and the fastest Bangladeshi cricketer to 50 wickets in Test cricket, Hasan Mahmud starred today with an eye-catching display of seam and swing bowling. He is so dextrous and far more mature than his age suggests, a coveted asset for Bangladesh and tailor-made for this format. Afghanistan were in a strong position when they started the day, but Rahmat Shah received little support from the lower order and the entire team was bundled out for 240 in a collapse. Hasan and Ebadot Hossain were miserly, making full use of whatever little assistance was available and creating wicket-taking opportunities to expose the vulnerabilities in Afghanistan's line-up. Bangladesh were 50 for 3 and in a tricky position but Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto weathered the storm and emerged on top. With the lead now over 300, Bangladesh are bossing the game and closing in on batting Afghanistan out of the contest. A herculean effort will be required from Afghanistan even to salvage a draw. That's it from an absorbing day of cricket. From myself, Rvel Zahid, Shashwat Kumar and Rashad Mahbub, it's good evening and we look forward to your company tomorrow!

Hasan Mahmud: When you start bowling, you try to bowl upright, swing the ball and get wickets. So yeah, I was just trying that and bowling across. Yeah, I'm very pleased to see this kind of moment in the morning. But yesterday, I got one wicket in the whole day. But I wasn't nervous at all. I was looking forward. I just feel that I should bowl straight, that's it, and let the ball do its job. So I just bowled the line of the stumps. It's amazing because, as you're saying, we tried in the last couple of days in the first innings, so everyone was just thinking about the DRS, how it's going to be, like, yeah, hitting or not. So yeah, credit to the captain and Liton Das for talking, chatting with each other, and then they corrected me, yeah, it's going to hit. You can take the review. I just want to keep going like that always, and looking forward to the Test Championship and going to South Africa for Test matches. So yeah, big, big Test. Everybody just keeps cheering me up till the last ball. So it's feeling very happy to, you know, get feedback from your teammates. Maybe it's going to be helpful for our spinners as well tomorrow. By the time the day goes, turns more. So maybe it's going to be good turning for spinners. I think we're going to follow the same process, same things. Just keep coming with the new ball, hitting the right lengths

Zia-ur-Rehman to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, no run, Two slip and a short leg. Lobbed up on a length and strays leg-side, bowling from around the wicket, clipped towards short leg and that'll be STUMPS on the moving third day. 99 runs and three wickets in this session. It's safe to say the honours have been shared in this session

Zia-ur-Rehman to Hasan Mahmud, OUT, Cunning change of length, bowls it a tad fuller and it drifts in by the looks of it and then moves away late, beating his forward defence: adjudged lbw but he wants to try his luck and has sent upstairs. Ball tracking says landing in line, impact in line and crashing top of middle and off and another mood-lifting strike for Afghanistan who will be looking for more as we head towards stumps. How often you see that happen in Test cricket? Wickets falling in the dying moments when the twilight starts to take over

Haqmal : "You are absolutely right zahid! Qais is primarily a white ball cricket bowler"

Qais Ahmad to Hasan Mahmud, 1 run, Fielders swarming around the bat. He comes in bubbling with energy, bit short and turning across off, more flight on this occasion, thwacked away to cover-point

Qais Ahmad to Najmul Hossain Shanto, OUT, Qais silences the naysayers including me, around the wicket and bowls a gem of a legbreak, lots of flight and it came back extravagantly, sneaking through the gate as Shanto came forward and couldn't handle the rip and bite, went past the inside edge and rattled the stumps, magnificent delivery and staggering knock by the captain! He really fought hard and it was a grinding knock! Hate off!

Qais Ahmad to Najmul Hossain Shanto, 1 run, Around the wicket, firing it full and outside off, pings an on-drive to long-on. Qais has been the weak-link in this bowling; maybe not suited and ready for this format or am I being too harsh?
