Today's edition of WORD PLAY features a piece of cricket tech. What is it?
Tahlia McGrath: "Our openers with the ball were outstanding. Both the way they moved for a bit of extra bounce was fantastic. That partnership through the middle - they batted really well [Sultana and Mostary]. We contained them, but couldn't take a wicket, so full credit to them there. We probably just gave away a bit too much width with our bowling, and watching Pheebs and Voll batting was pretty special.
[What does that century of Mostary mean for the game of cricket?] Awesome for the game of cricket. Yeah, the century was pretty special. It was a good innings, and I'm pretty happy for her, to be honest. They showed really good intent today, got us thinking a bit more about our field changes, and it was awesome to see them post a total like that. It was a pretty nice batting wicket, and Volla and Pheebs took full advantage.
[Opening batters] A lot of talent. I think they play with some freedom behind them. They know their strengths, and they're unique in that they complement each other really nicely with where they hit the ball, just taking the game on. Two young players; well, not kids, but with so much talent and no fear."
Nigar Sultana: "I think it was a much better performance than the other games. Me and Sobhana were there trying to build up a partnership, and Sobhana got her maiden century against Australia. It was a wonderful achievement for her, I guess. We could have eventually gotten more runs, but a few of their bowlers also bowled really well today. [Historical partnership and century knock] It was really historical and definitely a great achievement for her and for the team as well. I batted with her and kept telling her that she had to do it, and I felt like I played my part in that too. I am very happy for her because she is a wonderful player and has been very consistent with the bat for a long time, so I think she kind of deserved it.
[Next opportunity to improve] I guess we are improving day by day. I think there is a lot we can take from this game, and obviously we really want to reflect on that when we get the time. We will get two more days, so we will definitely give ourselves a good rest and recovery, and try to get a practice session in before that. We definitely want to come back and show further improvement."
Player of the Match, Georgia Voll: "I felt like I went out there and was batting how I wanted to bat the other day [first game] and was obviously unfortunate to get out the way I did. But it was just a matter of going back today and starting the exact same way. I love batting out there, so having another nice partnership at the top helped get our team off to a good start with some simple things. [Scoring centuries] I don't really know, to be honest. I think I base my game off a power game, but I go through the gears a little bit. I look to hit the ball hard and straight early, and then open up the ground a little bit. I try to take a little bit of the risk out early and then let my innings play out and take it on once I'm in.
[Batting with Litchfield] I think Phoebe can hit 360; she bats right and left-handed in ways, so it's pretty easy to bat at the other end with her. We've played with each other for a really long time, and it's been our dream to play alongside each other for Australia, to open for this team and try and put on a partnership at the top. We just have a lot of fun doing it."
7:45 pm A powerful start by Australia in the run chase, filled with boundaries and an array of clean power-hitting, easily put them on top during the first ten overs. Both Voll and Litchfield stepped on the gas right from the start. Voll reached her half-century off just 34 deliveries by swiping a short pitched delivery through square leg against Ritu Moni, while Litchfield brought up her fifty off 41 balls before striking back to back paddle scoops against Marufa. The opening stand scored 162 runs, doing all the damage in just 20 overs, then Litchfield departed for 70 off 51. Voll continued her magnificent ball-striking, bringing up her second WODI century off 81 deliveries. She was dropped on 104 runs by Sharmin, highlighting a miserable fielding display from the visitors as half-chances went begging. The bowling unit simply had no answers or plans to restrict the flow of runs on this surface, leaking boundaries at will against the relentless Australian openers. Voll remained unbeaten on 131 off 97 balls, with Perry alongside her on 19 not out off 22 as Australia wrapped up the chase. Post-match presentations are coming up next.
