Mustafa Moudi : "Somebody mentioned about Root's 7 consecutive ODI Half-Century and he got out soon. Someone labelled Brook as the Next Big Thing and he too got dismissed soon. Then Sahan's comments got Buttler and Atkinson. One feedback predicted 350 by doubling the 30 overs score rule and England got bundled out for 265.... But nobody jinxed Sri Lanka throughout their innings. Kudos to England for winning by such a margin with so much Jinxing!!"

Funnily enough, Will Jacks is the MoM: "Good allround performance from the team, tricky period but ushered the innings well. We've communicated well recently, Joe and Harry said 275-280 would be a good score, caught up a bit at the end. Play the situation, play with an open mind, see the situation when I go out there. We were more worried about batting the 50 overs. Having batted on it, I knew I would play a decent role. Harry likes to be as flexible as possible. Had to bowl a good one for the fifth one!"

Kusal Mendis: "Middle order struggled with the batting. Bowlers did really well, good score to chase. We have to do [over-rates] better, bowl on time, especially in a tight game. Have to be more quick. Pathum batted well, but we have to score more boundaries, and do it earlier. Sachindu bowled really well, he controlled the game, and batted positive. Very happy."

Harry Brook: "Not the easiest of surfaces but manufactured a win, after 20 overs we said 280 was decent, happy with 260. Jacks, outstanding player, constant performer in franchise, and awesome player to have in the side. Overton, outstanding in T20 and ODIs, the clarity was good, stumps in play. Rehan well went, did everything we asked, kept the stumps in play and gave it a rag. Unfortunately got some tap at the end."

7.45pm The first five-for by an England spinner against Sri Lanka since Vic Marks in 1983, and the second-best figures overall, behind that man Marks again!

Add to that a very handy 46 not out from 47 balls, and there's not much doubt about the Player of the match. Harry Brook made a fine 67 too, and Joe Root fell for 44 to end a remarkable run of 404 ODI runs between dismissals. A total of 265 felt relatively attainable for Sri Lanka, but their familiar batting frailties surfaced again. Kusal Mendis looked good for his 42, but only Wellalage, with 45 from 36 balls, found much traction at the end. The wickets were shared around, with Jamie Overton looking good for his two-for. Four in a row across formats for England against Sri Lanka, and it was again fairly one-sided in the final analysis.
