MI New York 162 for 2 (Pooran 68*, Monank 46) beat Texas Super Kings 158 (Ranjane 49, Milind 39, Bosch 4-29, Boult 3-18) by eight wickets
A trademark new-ball burst from Trent Boult, hard lengths from Corbin Bosch through the middle and late overs, and an unbeaten 68 from Nicholas Pooran gave MI New York (MINY) their first win of the season, by eight wickets over Texas Super Kings (TSK).
Boult gave MINY the ideal start after they opted to bowl, dismissing Smit Patel in the first over of the innings - it was his 50th first-over wicket in T20s where ball-by-ball data is available. He followed up by bowling Rilee Rossouw with one that nipped back into the left-hander, and TSK were 20 for 2 in the third over.
With Bosch picking up his first wicket in the sixth over, TSK were 47 for 3 at the end of the powerplay. They recovered through a 65-run stand between Milind Kumar and Shubham Ranjane for the fourth wicket, but they couldn't build any sustained momentum thereafter, as Ranjane fell one short of a half-century, and Bosch took the key wickets of Donovan Ferreira and Wiaan Mulder in the 15th and 18th overs. Eventually, TSK were bowled out for 158 with four balls left of their innings.
Quinton de Kock set the tone for MINY's chase with two fours and a six off Akeal Hosein in the first over, and TSK then missed a chance to apply some pressure when Amshi de Silva put down Monank Patel off Adam Milne in the third over. Monank went on to share partnerships of 49 with de Kock and 64 with Pooran before falling for 46 in the 13th over.
Pooran made a measured start to his innings, scoring 43 off his first 39 balls, before opening up at the finish, hitting three fours and two sixes off his last seven balls to hurry MINY to their target with 2.2 overs remaining.
