Well folks, that wraps up all the action from today's MLC match. Thank you so much for joining us. We have a double-header coming your way tomorrow, so be sure to tune in again. Until then, this is Rashad Mahbub signing off on behalf of M. Venkat Raghav and the rest of the Cricinfo crew. Lights out!
Jason Holder: "I think credit to the boys - we played a really good game of cricket. We were able to get over the line, which is something I said to the guys yesterday in our team meeting. We were just looking for a piece of brilliance from an individual. Rovman set it up today, supported well by Munro, and it was a great team effort from us in the field as well. We want to work as hard as we possibly can with the ball, but there is obviously room for improvement. [Narine and van Schalkwyk] Two good spells from two good bowlers. Credit to Shadley, he came in and did a really good job. For me, I just wanted him to go as deep as he possibly could, and he kept things tight. He didn't get all the wickets we were looking for, but his role was crucial before coming back for his last over to allow the rest to really express themselves. We were trying to get some wickets to stem the flow of runs at the back end because we felt a little bit under pressure, but that's the way the game goes. Credit to us for holding our nerve. [Munro and Powell] Yeah, you said it - two sensational innings from two great characters. Munro has been outstanding. You can't keep a good man down; he's just one of those guys who keeps coming. His energy in the dressing room is very infectious, he's one of our leaders, and he stood up trumps today. His innings was so crucial in terms of holding things together and allowing someone like Rovman to come in and express himself. And then, obviously, Rovman was outstanding with the power hitting he possesses. He was very calm, very cool, and he paced the chase perfectly. He picked his bowlers and hit them quite nicely."
Player of the Match, Rovman Powell: "[How did you change the game so quickly with Munro] At the halfway stage, I told the guys that it's a better wicket. Obviously, we played on a surface the other night and we struggled as batters, but I told them at the break that it's a better wicket where you can trust your strokeplay. Tonight, things came together nicely. We were in a little bit of trouble, and it's good for the experienced guys, myself and Colin Munro, to get the team over the line. [You enjoyed hitting everywhere] I think it's just a matter of clarity. I was very clear in what I wanted to do. It's a big boundary on one side, so I knew they were going to try to force me to hit to the big side. But I made a conscious effort and said to myself that if I hit the ball well to the big side, it's still a six. I wasn't 50-50; I was 100% clear on what I was trying to do. [How big a win is it] It's massive. The people of Los Angeles came out and supported us. It's fantastic to see the crowd, and I hope they come out tomorrow to support us so we can put on another show for them. When you look at the points table, this was important. We were languishing at the bottom after three defeats in a row, and dressing room morale was a little bit damaged. Tonight, the guys should get a lot of confidence knowing that we can win a game from any position."
Faf du Plessis: "[Anything about the way you guys batted walking off halfway?] I felt like it was a really good score. I thought the guys batted really well. They hung in on a tricky surface initially and then got through to what I thought was a competitive total. [Powell] It's obviously because he batted really well there. What someone like that does is put the bowler under pressure. The bowler then goes away from the right lengths because of that pressure and the way he is hitting. The brute power and beautiful striking from him put our bowlers on the back foot, forcing them to bowl a bit easier. That's always the cat-and-mouse game between bat and ball, and I thought he played it really well tonight."
10:05 pm Finally, the Knight Riders are back in the winners' column, ending their losing streak and throwing the points table wide open. With every team now sitting on six points, the competition couldn't be tighter! The Texas Super Kings made the ideal start as Milne knocked over Fletcher in just the second over. The Knight Riders then struggled to get going, reaching only 38 for 1 at the end of the Powerplay. Chand never looked settled during his stay at the crease and scratched his way to 18 before falling, while Colin Munro also found it difficult to break free early on. Munro was given a reprieve on 21 when Ranjane spilled a catch, and the Super Kings missed a couple of other opportunities, including a few run-out chances. Even so, the Knight Riders couldn't immediately make them pay, with the required rate climbing beyond 12 an over. The game changed dramatically once Munro found his rhythm and Powell joined him in the middle. A 17-run over off de Silva was followed by 22 off Mulder, swinging the momentum firmly in the Knight Riders' favour. Munro reached a well-composed half-century from 41 deliveries with a towering six over long off, but it was Powell who completely changed the nature of the chase. Powell played a breathtaking innings, racing to a 50 in only 18 balls. His assault on Milne, which yielded 26 runs in a single over through three fours and two sixes, effectively sealed the contest. By the time he departed for a stunning 73 from just 27 deliveries, he and Munro had added a match-winning 107 runs in only 41 balls. Munro remained unbeaten on 55 to guide his side home, capping off an impressive comeback victory. The result lifts the Knight Riders into fourth place, while the Super Kings slip to fifth as the race for the playoffs becomes even more closely contested.
