6:29pm: Washington Freedom have won by four runs. It's pouring down heavily and there's no realistic chance to get in overs before the cut-off time so that's all the action we have for you today from MLC. There could have been some twists and turns in this game if we had a full match because both these teams boast lethal bowling attacks. That over from Anrich Nortje changed the complexion of the game as Steve Smith was severe on him, ransacking 22 runs in the sixth over. Those timely hits put them ahead on the DLS.
Just after 24 hours, the defending champions have been defeated in a rain-marred affair. Their batting seems to be relying heavily on Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard. Rashid Khan's late onslaught gave them a great recovery from a precarious situation but winning consistently will require a full team effort. MINY started remarkably with the ball but one over swung the momentum in favor of WF. Steve Smith's aggressive intent turned the tables as he took on Anrich Nortje, hitting him for two sixes and two fours in the sixth over.
Thank you for joining us today. We'll look forward to your company for tomorrow's match between San Francisco Unicorns and Los Angeles Knight Riders. Until next time, it's goodbye from Rvel Zahid
6:26pm: Unfortunately, the forecast isn't looking promising for the next two hours so don't get your hopes up for a quick resumption. We've also started to lose overs from this point on
5:50pm: Covers are coming on now. The pitch has been fully covered and spectators are trying to find shelter as umbrellas go up. Picture looks gloomy at the moment but WF won't be too bothered though it would be annoying for MINY. Let's hope it clears away quickly and the mop-up work doesn't take long once the rain stops. We will keep you updated.
Yashwanth: "I live in Morrisville, and couple of blocks away from the ground. Just received a thunderstorm warning. MI fan me in full disappointment"
Naman: "in Baseball, home run distances are measured in feet. It makes perfect sense that distance of sixes is shared in feet to make it more relatable to that audience in the US."
Neil: "Morvin, the sixes are measured in feet and ball speed in mph because this is America, where the metric system is frowned upon and the Imperial system is normalized."
Anwar Shah: "That poor over from nortje has really changed the game and i am very disappointed from his effort."
Morvin : "Trying to figure out why the distance for a six is reported in feet and not meters."
END OF OVER:7 | 9 Runs | WSF: 52/1 (103 runs required from 13 overs, RR: 7.42, RRR: 7.92)
- Andries Gous5 (10b)
- Steven Smith43 (25b)
- Rashid Khan2-0-12-0
- Anrich Nortje1-0-22-0
DLS par score is 46 at this stage and rain is not far away from the ground!
