We probably beat ourselves into a position to win both of those games, so it's disappointing that we couldn't get over the line. Probably not after watching last night's game. You probably think anything's possible, especially here with the shorter boundaries. The conditions were in our favour as well. Obviously it was a big score to chase, but we couldn't get there in the end. It's been pretty special to not only make the finals, but to do it in front of our home crowd here at the special (Oakland Coliseum). Well, well, well, what an exhilarating high-scoring affair! SFU miss out on the second attempt, but they fought their hearts out, with their captain leading them fabulously throughout the season and stepping up in this Challenger as well. He remains unbeaten on 121 and just needed a little more support from his teammates. A man of great temperament, with the ability to hit all over the park. A great leader with superb tactical acumen as well. It was a magnificent innings, albeit in a losing cause, as he brought his team to a touching distance from victory. Excellent bowling by Saurabh Netravalkar, who conceded only 35 runs in this run-fest, while Ben Dwarshuis also did a fine job. Mitchell Owen held his nerve in the final over and nailed those yorkers when it mattered most. Earlier, Washington Freedom posted an imposing 238 for 6, led by two 40-odd scores from Mitchell Owen and Steve Smith before a 73-run rampage from the man in the form of his life, Andries Gous, made all the difference. He backed up last night's hundred with another well-crafted innings. Xavier Bartlett picked up three wickets, while Ghulam Mudassar was impressive with his cutters, but the likes of Hassan Khan and the rest found it tough to put a lid on the scoring. So, it's done and dusted. SFU couldn't get over the line in either of their two chances and will have to begin their quest for a title next year. The final will be between Washington Freedom and the Los Angeles Knight Riders. Do join us for the final party!
