Jason Holder: "Just really happy. The boys played an outstanding game of cricket. You know, from ball one, we were switched on. The boys really putting in a really big effort. You got to start again in the powerplay, and then what can I say about Andre Russell? He was absolutely outstanding. Probably played a little bit out of character in terms of how he held it together. Batted pretty smartly, and then obviously, finishing touch by Rovman there with the bat which really gave us a really good total at the halfway stage. [Narine] He's been outstanding. Every single time I've called upon him, he's delivered. That's the class of a top individual. So well done to him. I thought it was an outstanding team effort by the boys. Matthew [Short] put an outstanding innings together and kept us under pressure. We never felt as though we were really ahead of the game or winning the game. But that partnership that they had for the second wicket was very, very crucial. Had us under a little bit of pressure at one stage, but the boys held their nerve. I thought Russ bowled an outstanding 19th over and really got us a good night. To be fair I always felt we were going to win the game. You know how close it was, but it's good to win these kind of games. It just gives you a lot more confidence as a group, knowing that if the game comes so close, you can hold your nerve and get over the line. I think Shadley again has been outstanding. He's bowled some very difficult overs. And he probably didn't start as well as he would have liked. But the way he finished and executed and closed out the game for us was really important. But I think that 19th over by Russ was just outstanding. It gave him a little bit more cushion than the last over, and then we went down to the second last ball, really. [Dre Russ] Well, he's our Cristiano Ronaldo of the squad. We've got Lionel Messi in Sunil Narine, and we've got Cristiano Ronaldo with Andre Russell. So the class speaks for itself. 600 games is by no means an easy feat. It just shows longevity, but not only longevity but class. He's got to be able to perform over that period of time to play that amount of games. So today was just a perfect example of how great he is. And we should just celebrate him. We don't know how much longer he's got left. He's getting on in age, but he showed his class today. [Final] I know we've got a 50-50 chance. So I know we'll sit back and watch the next two days and see what happens."

Player of the Match, Rovman Powell: "I still think the 73 in Pomona is the better innings. You know, today was a little bit of entertainment. You know, the fans get their money's worth. But having said that, it's a very good all-round team performance. [Contributions from Munro and Russell] Yeah, we always sat as a batting group and say that we don't want to lose wickets in clusters. You know, both guys batting at the top of the order at number three, Andre. They played fantastically well. You know, they laid the platform for me to go and do what I do. You know, as I say, it's good to be in a final. You know the guys have been playing some good cricket overall. [Fastest fifty of the season] I guess it's just clarity. And the time that when I went to bat, you know, I had no choice but to do what I did. It's good to get a few out the bat, out the middle. You know, always as a batter, you always look into those kind of innings. [First time in the Grand Finale] It means everything. It's a franchise that haven't qualified for the playoffs. Now we are in the final, one step away from our ultimate goal. It's just for us now to take tomorrow as a rest, plan, and see how the game go today, and see how best we can come out and put on a performance for ourselves and a franchise in a few days."

Shadow-Shell: "Powell could've let Short get his century since they're winning either way"

Matthew Short: "Probably let it slip away a little bit there. You know, credit to Rovman there at the end of their innings. I think we gave a few loose ones, and he capitalized, a serious innings from him. Yeah, and then obviously got off to a bit of a rough start with a couple of wickets in the first over. But yeah, I think we caught it back well there and put ourselves in a decent position. But again, credit to LA there. Their bowlers there at the end nailed plenty of Yorkers and made it real tough for us. [Rebuilding after that shocking first over] I think we just wanted to stick to what we were good at. Still react to the ball. Didn't want to create anything. Sunny [Narine] is a ripper bowler there, you know, showing that all tournament. So he put the pressure on us early, and yeah, it's important for us to consolidate there. But yeah, it was a nice partnership, but yeah, couldn't get done. [You play tomorrow again] Oh, look, I haven't even thought about tomorrow. Yeah, we'll come back. We know what we need to do. We know the conditions now, so yeah, we'll reassess and go from there."

6:17 pm The Knight Riders had never reached the playoffs before, but they booked a spot in the grand finale at the very first opportunity. The Unicorns were in trouble early as spin wizard Sunil Narine struck twice in the opening over of the match, removing both dangerous openers, Allen and Pretorius, for golden ducks to set off the dancing shoes celebration. However, Matt Short and Krishnamurthi stepped up to rebuild the innings and get their team back on track. Short brought up his fifty off 33 balls, followed by Krishnamurthi reaching his own half-century off 36 deliveries. Both batters toiled hard early on before shifting into full gear. Their massive 151-run partnership was finally broken by van Schalkwyk in the 18th over when Krishnamurthi was caught at deep cover for a 47-ball 65. Russell then bowled an extraordinary 19th over, conceding just 6 runs and swinging the momentum back to his team with pinpoint yorkers. Van Schalkwyk held his nerve in the final over, delivering unplayable yorkers and picking up the wicket of Hardie, who was struggling to time the ball. In hindsight, the management might have been better off sending Hassan Khan ahead of Hardie, given his sublime recent form with the bat. In the end, the Knight Riders pulled off the unthinkable, snatching victory away from the Unicorns. Short remained unbeaten on a brilliant 94 off 62 balls, but the Unicorns ultimately fell short, unable to capitalize against a brilliant death-bowling display. Holder, Narine, and Russell were all economical, with Holder and Narine picking up two wickets apiece. Following the win, the Universe Boss Chris Gayle was seen on the field presenting a special jersey to Dre Russ to commemorate his 600th T20 match. The San Francisco Unicorns will have to lift themselves up for one last chance, as they face the winner of the Eliminator 1 clash, which takes place at the same venue shortly.
