That's all from the first match of the double-header; match 10 will begin shortly. Goodbye for now
Kamindu Mendis, Colombo Kaps Captain: Yeah, actually I'm really happy. The boys have been doing really well. It was a good total that we put on the board. Janith played really well and the others supported really well, and also Sahan, he stepped in this game. Yeah, that was brilliant. Yeah, I'm happy, but one thing going forward, we need to be concerned about our wickets. So going forward, we're going to make sure we don't repeat those mistakes.
Colombo Kaps had more hunger and put together a strong performance, setting up a big total with some valuable partnerships at the top and in the lower middle order, giving them enough on the board. In reply, Phillips and Shankar got into the 30s while Mathews came in lower down the order due to a calf strain and arrived with a clear plan to unleash his onslaught. Mujeeb was excellent, finishing with 3-34, while Wanuja was economical, and they had enough in the tank to keep Kandy Royals restricted. Mathews tried his heart out in the end but the penultimate over from Dahani and then the final over from Neesham ensured Colombo crossed the line comfortably. Having reliable death-bowling options is one of their key strengths. Colombo were not under too much pressure today because their batters gave them the freedom to attack with the ball. That extra cushion of runs allowed their bowlers to be more aggressive and execute their plans
