The top order came out all guns blazing and posted an above-par score, which proved far too overwhelming for Kandy, who never really turned up today and were playing catch-up throughout. They conceded plenty of runs and could have leaked even more had Shaheen not picked up three wickets towards the death. Then, with the bat, they folded meekly and kept finding the fielders while trying to keep up with the required rate. Lahiru Udara showed gritty resistance with a fighting half-century but there was little else to speak of, making for a sorry-looking scorecard. Angelo Mathews, Kandy Royals Captain: We were outplayed from ball one, unfortunately. We were not up to the mark today. Physically also, we were drained, but those are not excuses. We are a professional team playing professional sport. Unfortunately, we couldn't do well today. Congratulations to Jaffna; they were outstanding. It's going to be do-or-die in both games. We also have to wait for other teams to lose and look at all the scenarios. But all we can do is control what we can control and try to win those two games.

Kamil Mishara, Player of the Match: First of all, when they batted, the pitch was a bit soft and offered some turn. When we batted, the ball came on nicely to the bat, and playing through the line was easier. Yes, I think batting first was the right choice, especially on a fresh wicket.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jaffna Kings captain: Praise the Lord, first of all. When you're scoring quickly early in the innings, the momentum can shift at times. I'm quite happy with the way we finished because at one stage we were looking at around 175-180. I'm not the happiest with the last five overs, but 199 is a good total. It's all about performing consistently. All three departments matter when you want to win games and tournaments. Credit to our batters for the way they started the innings and to Mohamed Shiraz for the way he began with the ball. Overall, I'm happy with where we stand at the moment, and hopefully we can carry this momentum into Kandy.
