[How long to size up?] I get a bit of an advantage when I keep... you always have to give yourself a few balls in low-scoring games like that... [Rachin cameo?] Massive, especially at that stage of the innings. I dropped anchor... Such an important knock for us. [Bowling and fielding?] Electric, some real good catching. We put the balls in the right areas. Did we do it for long enough? That's one for the coaches. [Captaining Welsh Fire?] Just enjoyment. I've only played one game but I'm enjoying the group of lads we've got."
Chris Woakes tells the BBC: "Really pleased. Proper captain's knock by Phil Salt. It wasn't a great pitch... To get over the line in the first game is really nice. It looked like a used surface but with a green tinge through the middle. We adapted really quickly. We did well, I thought. It's hard to keep someone like David Miller quiet. [Salt?] It's not always you can go out in the Powerplay and dong it to all parts. He gauged the style of innings he needed to play tonight, showed his experience. [Hundred?] Really excited to be with a new team and a new group."
9.20pm: Cameos from Short, Root and Rachin through the Fire innings, but it was Salt's hard work that got them home. Brave kept things tight throughout but ultimately couldn't take enough wickets: you don't win many games when the opposition opener bats through the run chase.
Rose: "Just about worked, but what a bizarre innings from a bloke who strikes at 164 in international T20 - really shows how tricky the pitch was to bat on. A brave captain might have given Chaudhary the last set..." -- Can't fault his intent, just a reflection of the surface as you say.
