Florida State coach Mike Norvell said Monday he has not had recent conversations with the administration over his job evaluation following another double-digit loss.
The Seminoles lost 44-20 at Louisville on Friday night, a game in which they had an early two-touchdown lead. Florida State has not won a regular-season game on the road since beating Florida 24-15 on Nov. 25, 2023. Another road game looms at rival Miami on Saturday.
After athletic director Michael Alford was fired last month, football chief of staff Bruce Warwick was made interim athletic director. Norvell was asked during his weekly news conference whether that meant more communications on a week-to-week basis about his job performance. Since 2024, Norvell is 10-20, and questions about his job security have persisted.
"Our administration, they're fully aware of the things that we're doing, the way that we're working. The results that you see on the field, nobody was happy with Friday night," Norvell said. "They're not going to be a stronger critic of what our evaluation was than what I am. At the end of the day, my focus is what are we doing for our best to show up? What am I doing to help prepare our players to be the best they can be?
"If there's desire to have more conversation, obviously the administration can do that. I understand everybody's roles, everybody's responsibilities, everybody trying to make sure that we're pushing forward for this football team and this football program to be the best that it can be, and that's where all of my focus is staying."
Florida State is 3-3 to start the season, including 1-2 in ACC play. Since winning the ACC title in 2023, the Seminoles are 4-15 in conference games.
"Have the results been good enough? No. My job as head football coach is make sure the results are better," Norvell said. "I hate to go through disappointing results. But I understand the frustrations. There's rightful frustrations. I'm living in it with you."
