Air Force starting quarterback Liam Szarka will miss the rest of the season with a lower leg injury sustained in Saturday's win against Navy.
Szarka finished the game, rushing for 81 yards and two touchdowns and completing 6 of 11 passes for 82 yards and two interceptions as Air Force won 14-9. He leads the Mountain West and ranks 20th nationally in rushing (97.8 yards per game), and he leads the Mountain West and is tied for sixth nationally in rushing touchdowns (seven). Szarka has 296 passing yards with a touchdown and four interceptions this fall.
A second-year starter, Szarka led Air Force in rushing (922 yards), passing (1,294 yards) and total offense (2,216 yards) in 2025, becoming the first Falcons player since Karson Roberts in 2025 to reach 2,000 yards of total offense.
"It's a tough one to digest as Liam is quite a contributor as a player and leader," Air Force coach Troy Calhoun said in a statement. "He will get the best care from Dr. Travis Dekker, [trainer] Erick Kozlowski, and our superb medical crew to return in 2027. As we go forward, we have an excellent offensive staff that's so good each week at playing to our strengths. And we're certainly very fortunate to have such capable quarterbacks on our team."
Sophomore Evan Medders is likely next in line to play quarterback for Air Force, which visits Northern Illinois this week. The Falcons also have senior Josh Johnson, who started four games in 2025.
