Jeremiah Smith joined Terry Glenn on Saturday to become just the second Ohio State player with at least 200 receiving yards and four touchdowns in a game, as the Buckeyes coasted past Illinois 42-19.
Smith, who finished with 12 receptions for 217 yards and four touchdowns Saturday, also became the first player in 11 years to finish a Big Ten game with at least 200 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
"The double move he hit, he spun the guy around," Ohio State coach Ryan Day said, referring to Smith's fourth touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. "You're seeing a lot of those routes become even more precise. ... And for him, with the catch radius, you just throw it up enough, he's going to go make that play."
Smith's latest monster performance put him two scores away from breaking Chris Olave's (2018-21) Ohio State all-time receiving touchdown record. Smith is also now six touchdown receptions away from breaking Braylon Edwards' (2001-04) Big Ten record.
"[Scoring], that's my mindset every time I touch the ball," said Smith, who tied the Ohio State record for touchdowns in a game.
Last weekend in a win over Kent State, Smith broke Michael Jenkins' Ohio State receiving yardage mark of 2,898 yards.
Smith needs just 10 receptions to break Emeka Egbuka's school record of 205 total receptions.
