Penn State's Koby Howard to miss time with undisclosed injury

Penn State leading wide receiver Koby Howard will miss extended time following further evaluation of the injury he sustained last week against Buffalo.

Coach Matt Campbell said Wednesday that Howard's injury is "not season-ending," but it is likely to keep him sidelined for a good chunk of time. Campbell had a more optimistic outlook Tuesday, saying Howard would be evaluated later in the week. No. 13 Penn State opens Big Ten play Saturday when it hosts unranked Wisconsin.

"Obviously disappointing for Koby, but he's handled it really well," Campbell said.

Howard sustained the undisclosed injury on a 70-yard touchdown in the second quarter against Buffalo. The sophomore led Penn State with three receptions for 115 yards, and added a 20-yard touchdown run in a 55-13 win.

He leads the Big Ten and ranks third nationally in yards per reception (28.7), and ranks fourth in the league in receiving yards (344). Penn State will turn to Brett Eskildsen, Chase Sowell and others at wide receiver with Howard out.
