Texas' home showdown against Michigan in 2027 has been moved up a week to accommodate changes to college football's schedule format.
The Longhorns will host the Wolverines on Sept. 4, 2027, a week earlier than initially planned. Texas will open the season Aug. 28 against New Mexico State and finish nonleague play against UTEP, hosting both opponents. Texas also announced that its 2028 opener against Louisiana Tech will now be played Aug. 26.
Beginning in 2027, the college football schedule will begin a week before Labor Day weekend, in what has been previously called Week 0. Teams will play 12 games during a 14-week span with two open weeks. Michigan's opener against Buffalo has been moved to Aug. 28, and the Wolverines will now host Eastern Michigan on Sept. 11.
The Michigan-Texas game completes the second half of a home-and-home, as Michigan hosted Texas in the second game of the 2024 season, a 31-12 Longhorns win.
