Hines scores twice lifting Duquesne over Wagner 28-20
NEW YORK -- A.J. Hines had 22 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns to lead Duquesne past Wagner 28-20 on Saturday.
Hines entered the game needing 41 yards to become the first Dukes freshman since 1993 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season at the FCS level.
Dillon Buechel threw for 171 yards and a touchdown and Blair Roberts averaged 27.5 yards a catch on four receptions with a touchdown for Duquesne (6-3, 3-1 Northeast Conference).
Wagner (4-5, 2-2) raced to a 10-0 lead after Jim Cooper's 33-yard field and a 10-yard run by Alex Thomson.
Hines ran for a 60-yard score to trim the margin to 10-7. The teams traded touchdowns in the second. The Dukes took the lead for good when Buechel threw 18 yards to Roberts for a scored to make 21-20 with 1:54 left in the third quarter.
Alex Thomson threw for 218 yards for Wagner.
