Grambling State cruises to 35-14 win over Jackson State
JACKSON, Miss. -- DeVante Kincade threw for 227 yards and a score as Grambling State picked up its first conference win, cruising to a 35-14 victory over winless Jackson State on Saturday night.
Kincade hit Chad Williams with a 51-yard touchdown pass on his first play from scrimmage with 12:34 left in the first quarter. Joseph McWilliams took an interception return 62 yards for another score to give the Tigers (2-1, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) a 14-0 edge at the end of the first. Martez Carter ran for a touchdown with 12:26 to go in the second quarter, lifting Grambling State to a 21-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Donovan McCray returned a Jackson State (0-3, 0-1) fumble 51 yards for a score to make it 28-0 and the Tigers cruised from there.
LaMontiez Ivy was benched in the first quarter and was replaced by Brent Lyles who was 19 of 35 for 150 yards passing.
