Butler defeats Division III Franklin College 59-14
INDIANAPOLIS -- Malcolm Weaver threw three touchdowns in the first half and Duvante Lane ran for three more scores as Butler defeated Division III Franklin College 59-14 on Saturday.
Weaver was 16-of-23 for 260 yards passing for the Bulldogs (1-1). Lane ran for 104 yards on 12 carries. Pace Temple caught a pair of scoring passes and the third went to Danny Cotter who led with 106 yards receiving.
Weaver hit Temple for 39- and 15-yard touchdowns in the first quarter and Cotter for a 36-yard score late in the second. Lane had two scoring runs in the second quarter and the Bulldogs led 42-14 at the break.
Lane scored again after the break and a 47-yard field goal by Drew Bevelhimer stretched Butler's lead to 52-14 with 4:18 left in the third.
Chase Burton was 21-of-35 for 247 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Grizzlies, but was intercepted twice.
