Lafayette Leopards @ Central Connecticut Blue Devils
Lafayette defeats CCSU 24-10 with pair of fourth-quarter TDs
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Drew Reed passed for 316 yards with three touchdowns, all to Matt Mrazek -- two in the fourth quarter -- as Lafayette rallied to defeat Central Connecticut State 24-10 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Reed, a senior, completed 31 of 42 passes. He found Mrazek for 21 yards early in the fourth quarter to break a 10-10 tie, and iced the game with a 15-yarder to Mrazek for the final score. Mrazek, a junior, had six catches for 93 yards. He led the team in receiving yards last season despite missing the final three-and-a-half games with a fractured clavicle.
Jacob Dolegala was 26 of 39 for 269 yards passing for CCSU, including a touchdown strike to Alex Jamele to tie the game late in the third quarter, but was intercepted twice. The Blue Devils lost three fumbles including one with less than five minutes to play that ended any comeback threat.
