James Madison beats Villanova 20-7 to win CAA title
PHILADELPHIA -- Martez Stone's interception inside the Villanova 10 set up Khalid Abdullah's 2-yard touchdown run with 2:36 to play, clinching James Madison's 20-7 win over Villanova and Colonial Athletic Association championship on Saturday.
Stone, a defense tackle, batted Zach Bednarczyk's pass in the air and caught it before being dragged down at the 7. After a loss of two, a holding call backed up JMU to the 19 before the Wildcats had a holding penalty that produced a first down at the 5.
Abdullah, who had 101 yards on 33 carries, took two attempts to punch it in for his second touchdown. He has 35 career rushing touchdowns.
It was 7-7 at halftime before Tyler Gray kicked two field goals for the Dukes (9-1, 7-0).
Villanova (7-3, 5-2) had four turnovers, all Bednarczyk interceptions, two coming in the final 4 minutes. That ended the Wildcats' six-game home winning streak.
