Cal Poly pulls away for 59-41 win over Sacramento State
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Joe Protheroe ran in one touchdown, hauled in a pass for another and piled up 168 yards rushing to help Cal Poly past Sacramento State in a 59-41 win Saturday night.
Dano Graves threw three touchdown passes, including a 40-yarder to J.J. Koski in the third quarter to make it 24-17 and put Cal Poly (6-2, 4-1 Big Sky) on top for good. Jake Smeltzer also had a TD catch.
Kori Garcia ran 65 yards on the first play of Cal Poly's opening drive to put the Hornets up 7-0. Kyle Lewis had a 54-yard TD run, Reagan Enger ran one in from the 39 and Jared Mohamed had a 47-yard scoring run -- all in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs ran 65 times for a season-high 527 yards and five touchdowns.
Nate Ketteringham led Sacramento State (1-8, 1-5) with 236 yards passing and four touchdowns, connecting with Isiah Hennie for two scores. Hennie had 116 yards on six catches, and Jordan Robinson had 117 yards rushing with two TDs.
