Davidson beats Stetson 20-17 in game weather-delayed 5 hours
DELAND, Fla. -- A pair of pass interceptions in the last 2:50 by William Curran and Ryan Leak preserved Davidson's 20-17 defeat of Stetson in a season-ending game that took nearly eight hours to finish.
Lightning and rain arrived with halftime, prompting a nearly five-hour delay with Davidson (2-9, 1-7 Pioneer League) holding a 10-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Taylor Mitchell to William Morris and a Trevor Smith field goal.
Stetson (3-8, 1-7) rallied after play resumed in the dark -- a Grant Amick field goal and Cole Mazza 12-yard TD run knotting the game at 10-10 early in the fourth quarter.
Mazza added a second TD from the 1 to tie at 17-17 with 4:28 to play. But after Davidson was forced to punt, Ryan Tentler's first-down pass was picked by Curran, and Smith kicked a 47-yarder for the win with 1:24 remaining.
Tentler's pass on second-and-15 was intercepted by Leak to ice the game with 1:19 remaining.
