Macauley FG gives N.C. Central 20-17 win over Morgan State
DURHAM, N.C. -- Nigel Macauley booted a 30-yard field goal after a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter to give North Carolina Central a 20-17 victory over Morgan State on Saturday.
Morgan State's punter Chris Moller fumbled a low snap that Ramone Simpson recovered at the Morgan State 19 with 7:41 remaining. The Bears held and Macauley booted the field goal for the win.
The Bears drove to the NCCU 16 on the next series but were stopped when Ryan Smith intercepted a Seth Higgins' pass with 2:48 remaining.
Dorrel McClain, who finished with 113 rushing yards, scored two touchdowns to give North Carolina Central (4-3, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic) a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Higgins, who finished with 226 yards passing, ran for one score and passed to Willie Gillus III for another as Morgan State (3-4, 3-2) charged back to tie at 14 with 10:17 left in the third.
