North Carolina A&T fends off Hampton in 45-31 win
HAMPTON, Va. -- Khris Gardin returned four punts for 203 yards, and his 71-yard touchdown dash sent North Carolina A&T past Hampton for good in a 45-31 win Saturday afternoon.
North Carolina A&T (3-1, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) built a 17-point lead at the half. Tarik Cohen scored two of his three touchdowns in the first half and finished with 22 carries and 107 yards. His 3-yard plunge put the Aggies up 31-14.
Hampton (2-3, 1-2) closed the gap when David Watford completed a 13-yard score to Rayshad Riddick, and Adam Brown's 35-yard field goal made it 31-24. Watford finished with 242 yards three touchdowns.
Pirates wideout Twarn Mixson threw a 19-yard strike to SeQuan Gooding to tie the game at 31. Gardin's touchdown came with 5:56 left in the game, and Cohen scored from 2 yards to seal the victory.
