Hurts leads Texas Southern over Mississippi Valley St. 49-21
ITTA BENA, Miss. -- Averion Hurts threw six touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead Texas Southern to a 49-21 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.
Hurts was 19 of 24 for 311 yards passing. He threw three scoring strikes to Derrick Griffin, and two touchdown passes to Larry Clark III. Hurts also ran for 68 yards on 14 carries with a 5-yard touchdown run. Griffin caught seven passes for 178 yards, and Clark had four catches for 61 yards.
Ruban Thurston Jr. threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Keenan Daniels to pull Mississippi Valley State (0-7, 0-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference) to 28-21 early in the third quarter.
Hurts answered with touchdown passes of 36 and 22 yards to Griffin, and a 10-yarder to Clark to seal it for the Tigers (3-3, 2-3).
