Akron comes from behind to beat UMass 17-13
FOXBORO, Mass. -- Thomas Woodson ran for a 15-yard touchdown and Robert Stein kicked a 36-yard field goal in the second half to give Akron a 17-13 victory over Massachusetts in Mid-American Conference action on Saturday.
UMass was driving late when DeAndre Scott intercepted a Blake Frohnapfel pass with 36 seconds left to preserve the victory.
Akron (4-5, 2-3) had lost two straight before coming from behind to keep UMass (1-8, 0-5) winless in conference play.
Woodson passed for 174 yards and one score and ran for 58 yards with a touchdown. Conor Hundley grabbed 23 passes for 92 yards.
The Minutemen scored first and held a 13-7 halftime advantage following two Logan Laurent field goals of 36 and 40 yards. Woodson scored from the 15 with 8:54 left in the third quarter to give the Zips their first lead, 14-13 and Stein added the 36-yard field goal with 5:43 remaining.
