Ervin has 263 yards and San Jose St. beats New Mexico 31-21
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Tyler Ervin rushed for 263 yards, including a 71-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage, and San Jose State beat New Mexico 31-21 on Saturday night.
Ervin, who had 300 yards on 32 carries against Fresno State on Sept. 26, rushed 36 times against the Lobos (4-4, 2-2 Mountain West) and went over 1,000 yards this season.
Kenny Potter was 16-of-20 passing for two touchdowns and ran for another score for the Spartans (4-4, 3-2).
Trailing 14-7, Potter answered with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Hansell Wilson and a 25-yarder to Billy Freeman for a 21-14 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Potter avoided a sack and turned the play into a 12-yard scoring run.
Austin Lopez's field goal made it 31-14 before the Lobos scored on Jhurell Pressley's 4-yard run with 7:46 remaining.
New Mexico's early lead came on Teriyon Gipson's 79-yard TD run and Diquon Woodhouse's 4-yarder.
