Lynch, Memphis spoils Bowling Green home opener, 44-41
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Paxton Lynch threw two long touchdown passes in the second half and Jake Elliot kicked a 29-yard field goal with 7:35 left as Memphis spoiled Bowling Green's home opener on Saturday, 44-41.
The loss snapped a string of six straight wins in home openers by Bowling Green (1-2).
Lynch completed 29 of 40 passes for 386 yards and threw touchdowns to three different receivers for Memphis (3-0).
Tied at 34-34 after three quarters, Matt Johnson gave Bowling Green took the lead on a 62-yard, Matt Johnson-to-Roger Lewis touchdown pass to open the fourth.
Lynch responded with a 48-yard scoring pass to Tevin Jones that tied the game at 41-41 with more than 11 minutes left, and Elliott booted the game-winning field goal with 7:35 remaining.
Johnson was 28 of 44 for 443 yards and four touchdowns, three of them to Lewis, who finished with seven receptions for 261 yards.
