Morgan State Bears @ Richmond Spiders
Richmond advances in FCS with 46-24 win
RICHMOND, Va. -- Michael Strauss threw four touchdowns passes -- two to Reggie Diggs, who had 132 yards receiving -- and Richmond won its FCS playoff opener with a 46-24 victory over Morgan State on Saturday.
Richmond next plays seventh-seeded Coastal Carolina.
The Spiders scored 22 first-quarter points and led 29-10 on Diggs' second touchdown reception 20 seconds before halftime. Strauss' 22-yard pass to Seth Fisher, who ran for two scores, made it 36-10 in the third quarter. The touchdown came on the first play after Evan Kelly sacked Moses Skillon and forced a fumble he recovered.
Skillon threw two touchdown passes and ran for another but was intercepted three times. Herb Walker Jr. ran for 120 yards, his seventh time over 100 this season.
The Spiders (9-4) are in the FCS playoffs for the ninth time. The Bears (7-6) were making their first Division I postseason trip under new coach Lee Hull.
