Austin Peay Governors @ Mercer Bears
Mercer beats Austin Peay 49-21
MACON, Ga. -- John Russ threw for three touchdowns and Alex Lakes ran for two more Saturday and Mercer dominated Austin Peay 49-21, pushing the Governors' losing streak to 18 straight games.
Chandler Curtis, who returned a punt 99 yards for a score in last week's loss to Samford, returned a punt 61 yards for a TD for Mercer (5-2).
Russ was 10 of 13 for 179 yards passing, including TD strikes of 80 yards to Tee Mitchell, 11 to Avery Ward and 12 to JT Palmer. Backup Michael Haynes threw a 5-yard score to Derek Owings. Lakes scored on two 12-yard runs and gained 98 yards on 13 carries.
Mickey Macius was 6 of 11 for 86 yards and an interception, with TD passes of 7 yards to Malik Boynton and 32 yards to Jared Beard. Otis Gerron scored on an 89-yard run for the Governors (0-6) and finished with 196 yards.
